is there a catch on the free web hosts?

I need a web host that offers about 100 megs of space. my friend recommended that I use 1 & 1 but I dont want to spend any money on it so I want to know if I should get a free host or buy one. Additional Details I am 14 and I just want to make a sit for fun but useful to other people.

2. I'd say Freewebs. I don't know how much storage they have by now, as I haven't used it in a long time. : \

5. The biggest catch to Free Web Hosts are that they place very large very obnoxious banner advertisements on your site. Also, most do not allow 3rd party page linking.
6. Always going to be a catch when it comes to free. Sometimes they'll place advertisement on your webpage that might get in the way of something you put there. They could also provide limited bandwidth so reaching a large audience might be a challenge. Once you use up your bandwidth they'll turn your site off temporarily. Also when they give you something free expect to have problems. I had a free web host a few years ago as I was looking for a cheap place to start creating my portfolio since I just finished college with a degree in Web Design and I never saw so much problems. Either people couldn't reach my site or there were database issues preventing anything from working and took forever to get fixed. I finally quit trying because I got tired of it. Free isn't worth it when it comes to looking for a web host.
