  1. Well it depends on the popularity of that keyword, I assume web hosting would be a popular keyword and therefore more expensive. I do some of this for a local real estate company and average 20cents a click per keyword with 2cents being the lowest and the highest costing 33 cents. For these two sites. http://www.5662121.com/ http://www.century21.ca/colonialrealty Google is where most people go to search so that's where we advertise. That being said I have had no experience with Yahoo. I would recommend reading up on it before jumping in, you could save yourself some money. Just Google "PPC tips". Good luck.
  2. Web hosting keywords and phrases are very competitive. If you have the budget you should definitely attempt PPC advertising. Also, what others said, certain keywords and phrases will cost more per click (cost per click or CPC). However, you can use keyword tools and programs to help you compile a great keywords list. You can also aim for more long tailed keywords and phrases as those tend to cost less per click. Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture) and Google Adwords target completely different demographics. I'd have to say that Google targets more of the tech savvy and a younger audience where as Yahoo! has an older and less tech savvy user base. However, both Yahoo! and Google are great ways to advertise. I'd recommend trying to run campaigns through both Yahoo! and Google and see which produces the best results for you. If you have a low budget to start off with I recommend using Yahoo. Usually, keywords for Adwords is about 2-3 times higher than what you would bid for with Yahoo...not always though. Keep in mind, if you use Yahoo Search Marketing and have a lower budget it will take longer to gather information to optimize your ads and campaigns. Collect your data, be patient, and things will work out. There are also vouchers for Yahoo Search Marketing and Google Adwords that will credit a new user's account with up to $100 dollars. You can check out my site under the $$$ link for links to vouchers. Good luck! Edit: With Google Adsense your CPC can be as low as .01 cent per click. With Yahoo! you must have a minimum bid of .10 cents.
