- Freeservers such as Geocities and Freewebs only allow you to have subdomains. (name.domain.com or domain.com/name.) If you want a yourname.com domain, you will need to buy one. I am assuming that you're under the age of 18 and can't buy a domain name, if so I would suggest: 1. Using a freeserver and start your site there, and then wait until you can buy your own domain name/hosting. It may take a year. It may take 5 years. Heck, it may take 10 years, but this is your only choice if you want to make a site and can't pay for anything. 2. If you can't wait, then don't have a website.
- godaddy.com allows you to make your own site for like $10 a year
- I recently got one at doteasy.com. You have to pay for the domain name though.
- There are free community sites where you can create your own communities like Ezboard, etc. But, you want a free domain name registration coupled with hosting? You can't get your own www.thisismysite.com without domain registration which costs no matter who offers you free hosting, which is in abundance: geocities, angelfire, etc. Domain registration is extremely cheap though. Like 20 bucks for a full year as long as the name is not already owned. go to www.register.com and check. You may score a cheap domain name registration. Then, you can actually host the site yourself using your own webserver which is beyond the scope of this post.
- Free webhosts are not really good as they will use your site to make money. Visit http://www.nicewebhosts.com there you will find best web hosting providers compared with their webspace and bandwidth as well as their prices.
